Wisetek Hosts Annual EHS Week
This year’s theme was “Wise Waste Olympics”
Wisetek held its annual Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) Week with events that were dedicated to championing environmental, health, and safety awareness and encouraging employees to take part in environmental activities. This year’s event, which took place from 5th – 9th August, had a “Wise Waste Olympics” theme, underscoring Wisetek’s commitment to sustainability, safety, and community engagement.
The “Wise Waste Olympics” featured various innovative and engaging activities, all crafted using upcycled materials, promoting the principles of the circular economy. The activities included:
- Obstacle Course: Employees navigated a challenging obstacle course that featured a hula hoop, hopscotch, a hurley solo run, crazy golf, corn hole, a waste separation game, bottle toss and basketball, all testing their agility and team spirit.
- Launch of a deposit return scheme charity bin: This initiative allowed employees to donate through the deposit return scheme, with the collected funds going to the Irish Cancer Society.
- WEE collection drive: The drive encourages employees to dispose of their electronic waste responsibly.
Sean Sheehan, CEO of Wisetek, expressed his enthusiasm for the event: “We were excited to usher in Wisetek’s 2024 EHS Week with the ‘Wise Waste Olympics’. It is an occasion that truly embodies our values of safety, sustainability, and community engagement and this year’s theme brought a sense of fun and teamwork to the week. Through these interactive activities, we aim to inspire lasting change and foster a collective dedication to responsible practices, reflecting our core values at Wisetek.”
Chris O’Neill, International Quality and Compliance Manager at Wisetek, added: ” The ‘Wise Waste Olympics’ was a fantastic initiative that brought our team together to focus on sustainability and safety in a unique and enjoyable way. It was encouraging to see so many Wisetek employees from across the business take part in this year’s events. Initiatives like these are vital as they allow us to celebrate and demonstrate our core values, such as the circular economy, in a way that is enjoyable for everyone. We look forward to planning and preparing for next year’s event.”
Wisetek’s EHS Week activities were aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal number 12, which emphasises “Responsible Consumption and Production” and is about ensuring sustainable consumption and production patterns, which is key to sustain the livelihoods of current and future generations.
